The 747 is an older airliner that served for nearly 50 years. Nicknamed the queen of the skies, the 747 shaped the aviation world to what it is today. It started the trend of wide body airliners, as at the time they used to use narrow body 707's and dc-8's on long haul routes. These were replaced by the 747 and other wide body planes. The 747 also has 2 decks and a much larger passenger capacity compared to any other airliner at the time. Airlines were quick to buy the 747, and used it for their most popular destinations. The plane would be upgrades and sized up over the years. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, airlines could no longer maintain the 747 while not getting any money out of it. As a result, most airlines would sell their 747's for scrap. However, a few 747's do remain, but are mostly cargo. Lufthansa still operates them, and you can fly on them if you choose the correct flights.
